Light O' the Morning: The Story of an Irish Girl — Page 4

English → Pt CHAPTER II. Level 4/10

She came in, hiding both her hands under her apron.

Ela entrou, escondendo ambas as mãos sob o avental.

Mrs. O'Shanaghgan uttered an impatient sigh.

A Sra. O'Shanaghgan soltou um suspiro impaciente.

"It is impossible to train these creatures," she said under her breath.

"É impossível treinar essas criaturas", ela disse em voz baixa.

Aloud, she gave her order in quiet, impassive tones:

Em voz alta, ela deu sua ordem em tons calmos e impassíveis:

"Tea as soon as possible in the west parlor, and sound the gong when it is ready."

"Chá o mais rápido possível na sala de estar oeste, e toque o gongo quando estiver pronto."

"Why, then, wasn't I getting it?" said Pegeen.

"Ora, então, não estava eu indo buscá-lo?" disse Pegeen.

She left the room, leaving the door wide open.

Ela saiu do quarto, deixando a porta escancarada.

"Just like them," said Mrs. O'Shanaghgan.

"Típico delas", disse a Sra. O'Shanaghgan.

"When you want the door open they invariably shut it, and when you want it shut they leave it open."

"Quando você quer a porta aberta, elas invariavelmente a fecham, e quando você quer fechada, elas a deixam aberta."

"They do that in England too, as far as I can tell," said the Squire, with a slightly nettled tone in his voice.

"Elas fazem isso também na Inglaterra, pelo que posso dizer", disse o Escudeiro, com um tom ligeiramente irritado na voz.

"Well, now, Patrick, while we have a few moments to ourselves, I want to know what you mean to do about that ten thousand pounds?"

"Pois bem, Patrick, enquanto temos alguns momentos a sós, quero saber o que você pretende fazer a respeito dessas dez mil libras?"

"I am sure, Ellen, it is more than I can tell you."

"Tenho certeza, Ellen, que é mais do que posso te dizer."

"You will have to pay it, you know."

"Você terá que pagá-la, sabe."

"I suppose so, some day. I'll speak to Dan to-night. He is the last man to be hard on a chap."

"Suponho que sim, algum dia. Falarei com Dan esta noite. Ele é o último homem a ser duro com alguém."

"Some more of the land must go," said the wife in a fretful tone.

"Mais uma parte das terras terá que ir", disse a esposa em tom irritadiço.

"Our rent-roll will be still smaller.

"Nossa lista de rendas será ainda menor.

There will be still less money to educate Terence.

Haverá ainda menos dinheiro para educar Terence.

I had set my heart on his going to Cambridge or Oxford.

You quite forget that he is eighteen now."

"Cambridge or Oxford!" said the Squire.

"Cambridge ou Oxford!" disse o Escudeiro.
