The Angel in the House — Page 4

English → Pt Book I. Level 7/10

I will not hearken blame or praise;

Não darei ouvidos a censura ou elogio;

For so should I dishonour do

Pois assim desonraria

To that sweet Power by which these Lays

Aquele doce Poder pelo qual estes Versos

Alone are lovely, good, and true;

São somente belos, bons e verdadeiros;

Nor credence to the world's cries give,

Nem darei crédito aos clamores do mundo,

Which ever preach and still prevent

Que sempre pregam e ainda assim impedem

Pure passion's high prerogative

A alta prerrogativa da paixão pura

To make, not follow, precedent.

De criar, e não seguir, precedente.

From love's abysmal ether rare

Do raro éter abismal do amor

If I to men have here made known

Se eu aos homens aqui tornei conhecidas

New truths, they, like new stars, were there

Before, though not yet written down.

Antes, embora ainda não escritas.

Moving but as the feelings move,

Movendo-me apenas como os sentimentos se movem,

I run, or loiter with delight,

Corro, ou vagueio com deleite,

Or pause to mark where gentle Love

Persuades the soul from height to height.

Persuade a alma de altura em altura.

Yet, know ye, though my words are gay

Contudo, sabei, embora minhas palavras sejam alegres

As David's dance, which Michal scorn'd.

If kindly you receive the Lay,

Se bondosamente receberdes o Verso,

You shall be sweetly help'd and warn'd.

Sereis docemente ajudados e avisados.

THE CATHEDRAL CLOSE.

O RECINTO DA CATEDRAL.

Once more I came to Sarum Close,

With joy half memory, half desire,

Com uma alegria meio memória, meio desejo,

And breathed the sunny wind that rose

And blew the shadows o'er the Spire,

E soprou as sombras sobre o Campanário,

And toss'd the lilac's scented plumes,

E agitou os perfumados ramos do lilás,

And sway'd the chestnut's thousand cones,

E balançou os mil cachos do castanheiro,

And fill'd my nostrils with perfumes,

E encheu minhas narinas de perfumes,

And shaped the clouds in waifs and zones,

E moldou as nuvens em franjas e faixas,

And wafted down the serious strain

E trouxe suavemente a solene melodia

Of Sarum bells, when, true to time,

I reach'd the Dean's, with heart and brain

Cheguei à casa do Decano, com coração e mente

That trembled to the trembling chime.

Que tremiam ao tremulante repique.

'Twas half my home, six years ago.

Era quase meu lar, há seis anos.

The six years had not alter'd it:

Os seis anos não o tinham alterado:

Red-brick and ashlar, long and low,

Tijolo vermelho e cantaria, longo e baixo,

With dormers and with oriels lit.

Com mansardas e com oriais iluminados.
