The Ballad of the White Horse — Page 7

English → Spanish BOOK I. THE VISION OF THE KING Level 7/10

The gates of heaven are lightly locked,

Las puertas del cielo están levemente cerradas,

We do not guard our gold,

No guardamos nuestro oro,

Men may uproot where worlds begin,

Or read the name of the nameless sin;

O leer el nombre del pecado sin nombre;

But if he fail or if he win

Pero si fracasa o si vence

To no good man is told.

A ningún hombre bueno se le dice.

"The men of the East may spell the stars,

"Los hombres del Este pueden descifrar las estrellas,

And times and triumphs mark,

Y marcar tiempos y triunfos,

But the men signed of the cross of Christ

Go gaily in the dark.

Avanzan alegremente en la oscuridad.

"The men of the East may search the scrolls

"Los hombres del Este pueden escudriñar los pergaminos

For sure fates and fame,

But the men that drink the blood of God

Go singing to their shame.

Van cantando hacia su vergüenza.

"The wise men know what wicked things

"Los sabios conocen qué cosas perversas

Are written on the sky,

Están escritas en el cielo,

They trim sad lamps, they touch sad strings,

Recortan tristes lámparas, tocan tristes cuerdas,

Hearing the heavy purple wings,

Oyendo las pesadas alas púrpuras,

Where the forgotten seraph kings

Donde los olvidados reyes serafines

Still plot how God shall die.

"The wise men know all evil things

"Los sabios conocen todas las cosas malignas

Under the twisted trees,

Bajo los árboles retorcidos,

Where the perverse in pleasure pine

And men are weary of green wine

And sick of crimson seas.

Y hastiados de los mares carmesí.

"But you and all the kind of Christ

"Pero vosotros y todos los del linaje de Cristo

Are ignorant and brave,

Sois ignorantes y valientes,

And you have wars you hardly win

Y tenéis guerras que apenas ganáis

And souls you hardly save.

Y almas que apenas salvéis.

"I tell you naught for your comfort,

"No os digo nada para vuestro consuelo,

Yea, naught for your desire,

Ni nada para vuestro deseo,

Save that the sky grows darker yet

And the sea rises higher.

Y el mar sube más alto.

"Night shall be thrice night over you,

"La noche será tres veces noche sobre vosotros,

And heaven an iron cope.

Y el cielo una cúpula de hierro.

Do you have joy without a cause,

¿Tenéis alegría sin motivo,

Yea, faith without a hope?"

Sí, ¿fe sin esperanza?"
