The Ballad of the White Horse — Page 6

English → It BOOK I. THE VISION OF THE KING Level 7/10

But for this earth most pitiful,

Ma per questa terra tanto misera,

This little land I know,

Questa piccola terra che conosco,

If that which is for ever is,

Se ciò che è per sempre esiste,

Or if our hearts shall break with bliss,

Seeing the stranger go?

Nel vedere lo straniero andarsene?

"When our last bow is broken, Queen,

"Quando il nostro ultimo arco sarà spezzato, Regina,

And our last javelin cast,

E il nostro ultimo giavellotto scagliato,

Under some sad, green evening sky,

Sotto qualche triste, verde cielo serale,

Holding a ruined cross on high,

Tenendo in alto una croce in rovina,

Under warm westland grass to lie,

Shall we come home at last?"

Torneremo a casa alla fine?"

And a voice came human but high up,

Like a cottage climbed among

Come un cottage arrampicato tra

The clouds; or a serf of hut and croft

That sits by his hovel fire as oft,

But hears on his old bare roof aloft

A belfry burst in song.

Un campanile esplodere in canto.

"The gates of heaven are lightly locked,

"I cancelli del cielo sono leggermente chiusi,

We do not guard our gain,

Non custodiamo il nostro guadagno,

The heaviest hind may easily

Il più rozzo dei servi può facilmente

Come silently and suddenly

Venire in silenzio e all'improvviso

Upon me in a lane.

Incontrarmi in un vicolo.

"And any little maid that walks

"E qualsiasi giovane fanciulla che cammini

In good thoughts apart,

In buoni pensieri appartata,

May break the guard of the Three Kings

Può spezzare la guardia dei Tre Re

And see the dear and dreadful things

E vedere le care e terribili cose

I hid within my heart.

Che ho nascosto nel mio cuore.

"The meanest man in grey fields gone

"Il più misero degli uomini, scomparso nei campi grigi

Behind the set of sun,

Oltre il tramonto del sole,

Heareth between star and other star,

Ode tra una stella e l'altra,

Through the door of the darkness fallen ajar,

Attraverso la porta dell'oscurità socchiusa,

The council, eldest of things that are,

The talk of the Three in One.

Il discorso dei Tre in Uno.
