As an unperfect actor on the stage,

Como um imperfeito ator no palco,

Who with his fear is put beside his part,

Or some fierce thing replete with too much rage,

Whose strength's abundance weakens his own heart;

Cuja abundância de força enfraquece o próprio coração;

So I for fear of trust, forget to say,

The perfect ceremony of love's rite,

A perfeita cerimônia do rito do amor,

And in mine own love's strength seem to decay,

E na força do meu próprio amor pareço definhar,

O'ercharged with burthen of mine own love's might:

O let my looks be then the eloquence,

Ó, que meus olhares sejam então a eloquência,

And dumb presagers of my speaking breast,

E mudos presságios do meu peito que fala,

Who plead for love, and look for recompense,

Que suplicam por amor e buscam recompensa,

More than that tongue that more hath more expressed.

O learn to read what silent love hath writ,

Ó, aprende a ler o que o amor silencioso escreveu,

To hear with eyes belongs to love's fine wit.

Mine eye hath played the painter and hath stelled,

Meu olho fez o papel do pintor e fixou,

Thy beauty's form in table of my heart,

My body is the frame wherein 'tis held,

Meu corpo é a moldura onde ela é contida,

And perspective it is best painter's art.

E a perspectiva é a melhor arte do pintor.

For through the painter must you see his skill,

To find where your true image pictured lies,

Para encontrar onde jaz retratada a tua verdadeira imagem,

Which in my bosom's shop is hanging still,

That hath his windows glazed with thine eyes:

Now see what good turns eyes for eyes have done,

Mine eyes have drawn thy shape, and thine for me

Are windows to my breast, where-through the sun

Delights to peep, to gaze therein on thee;

Deleita-se em espiar, em contemplar-te lá dentro;

Yet eyes this cunning want to grace their art,

They draw but what they see, know not the heart.
