The divine comedy — Page 5

English → Spanish CANTO II Level 9/10

What is this comes o'er thee then?

¿Qué es esto que te sobreviene entonces?

Why, why dost thou hang back? why in thy breast

¿Por qué, por qué retrocedes? ¿por qué en tu pecho

Harbour vile fear? why hast not courage there

Albergas vil temor? ¿por qué no tienes allí valor

And noble daring? Since three maids so blest

Y noble osadía? Pues tres doncellas tan benditas

Thy safety plan, e'en in the court of heaven;

Tu salvación planean, incluso en la corte del cielo;

And so much certain good my words forebode."

Y tanto bien seguro presagian mis palabras."

As florets, by the frosty air of night

Bent down and clos'd, when day has blanch'd their leaves,

Rise all unfolded on their spiry stems;

Se alzan todas desplegadas sobre sus esbeltos tallos;

So was my fainting vigour new restor'd,

Así fue restaurado mi vigor desfalleciente,

And to my heart such kindly courage ran,

Y tal bondadoso valor corrió hacia mi corazón,

That I as one undaunted soon replied:

Que yo, como alguien intrépido, respondí pronto:

"O full of pity she, who undertook

"¡Oh llena de piedad ella, que emprendió

My succour! and thou kind who didst perform

Mi socorro! ¡y tú, bondadoso, que cumpliste

So soon her true behest! With such desire

Tan pronto su verdadero mandato! Con tal deseo

Thou hast dispos'd me to renew my voyage,

Me has dispuesto a renovar mi viaje,

That my first purpose fully is resum'd.

Que mi primer propósito queda plenamente reanudado.

Lead on: one only will is in us both.

Thou art my guide, my master thou, and lord."

Tú eres mi guía, mi maestro tú, y mi señor."

So spake I; and when he had onward mov'd,

I enter'd on the deep and woody way.
