The Expedition of Humphry Clinker — Page 1

English → Spanish RESPECTED SIR, Level 8/10

I have received your esteemed favour of the 13th ultimo, whereby it appeareth, that you have perused those same Letters, the which were delivered unto you by my friend, the reverend Mr Hugo Behn;

He recibido su estimada carta del 13 del mes pasado, por la cual parece que usted ha leído esas mismas Cartas, las cuales le fueron entregadas por mi amigo, el reverendo Sr. Hugo Behn;

and I am pleased to find you think they may be printed with a good prospect of success;

y me complace saber que usted considera que pueden imprimirse con buenas perspectivas de éxito;

in as much as the objections you mention, I humbly conceive, are such as may be redargued, if not entirely removed--

en la medida en que las objeciones que usted menciona, según humildemente concibo, son de tal naturaleza que pueden ser refutadas, si no eliminadas por completo--

And, first, in the first place, as touching what prosecutions may arise from printing the private correspondence of persons still living, give me leave, with all due submission, to observe, that the Letters in question were not written and sent under the seal of secrecy;

Y, en primer lugar, en cuanto a los procesos judiciales que pudieran derivarse de la impresión de la correspondencia privada de personas aún vivas, permítame, con toda la debida humildad, observar que las Cartas en cuestión no fueron escritas ni enviadas bajo sello de secreto;

that they have no tendency to the mala fama, or prejudice of any person whatsoever; but rather to the information and edification of mankind:

que no tienen tendencia alguna a la mala fama, ni al perjuicio de persona alguna; sino más bien a la información y edificación de la humanidad:

so that it becometh a sort of duty to promulgate them in usum publicum.

de modo que se convierte en una especie de deber promulgarlas in usum publicum.

Besides, I have consulted Mr Davy Higgins, an eminent attorney of this place, who, after due inspection and consideration, declareth, That he doth not think the said Letters contain any matter which will be held actionable in the eye of the law.

Además, he consultado al Sr. Davy Higgins, eminente abogado de este lugar, quien, tras la debida inspección y consideración, declara que no considera que dichas Cartas contengan materia alguna que pueda ser considerada procesable a los ojos de la ley.
