English → Spanish Preface Level 7/10

He has therefore wished me to remodel the preface, transferring all portions relating to the subjects in question to the Review, retaining whatever may more properly stand at the commencement of the work, and adding any matter of my own.

Por lo tanto, me ha pedido que remodele el prefacio, transfiriendo todas las partes relacionadas con los temas en cuestión a la Revista, conservando todo lo que pueda figurar más apropiadamente al comienzo de la obra, y añadiendo cualquier asunto de mi propia cosecha.

The object with which the translation was made is best expressed in the words of Mr. Lane's preface.

El propósito con el que se realizó la traducción queda mejor expresado en las palabras del prefacio del Sr. Lane.

"My undertaking to translate anew the Tales of 'The Thousand and One Nights' implies an unfavourable opinion of the version which has so long amused us; but I must express my objections with respect to the latter in plain terms, and this I shall do by means of a few words on the version of Galland, from which it is derived; for to him alone its chief faults are to be attributed.

«Mi empresa de traducir de nuevo los Cuentos de 'Las Mil y Una Noches' implica una opinión desfavorable de la versión que durante tanto tiempo nos ha entretenido; pero debo expresar mis objeciones con respecto a esta última en términos claros, y lo haré por medio de unas pocas palabras sobre la versión de Galland, de la cual deriva; pues solo a él deben atribuirse sus principales defectos.

I am somewhat reluctant to make this remark, because several persons, and among them some of high and deserved reputation as Arabic scholars, have pronounced an opinion that his version is an _improvement_ upon the original.

Me resisto en cierta medida a hacer esta observación, porque varias personas, y entre ellas algunas de alta y merecida reputación como estudiosos del árabe, han expresado la opinión de que su versión supone una _mejora_ con respecto al original.

That 'The Thousand and One Nights' may be greatly improved, I most readily admit; but as confidently do I assert that Galland has excessively _perverted_ the work.

Que 'Las Mil y Una Noches' puede mejorarse considerablemente, lo admito de muy buen grado; pero con igual confianza afirmo que Galland ha _pervertido_ excesivamente la obra.
