Beowulf: An Anglo-Saxon Epic Poem — Page 4

English → Chinese Full Text Level 9/10

Of those translators who have used verse, several have written from what would seem a mistaken point of view.

在那些使用诗体翻译的译者中,有几位似乎是从一种错误的观点出发进行写作的。

Is it proper, for instance, that the grave and solemn speeches of Beowulf and Hrothgar be put in ballad measures, tripping lightly and airily along?

例如,将贝奥武甫与赫罗斯加庄严肃穆的言辞以轻快飘逸的民谣格律来表现,这是否适当?

Or, again, is it fitting that the rough martial music of Anglo-Saxon verse be interpreted to us in the smooth measures of modern blank verse?

又或者,将盎格鲁-撒克逊诗歌粗犷雄浑的战歌,以现代无韵诗流畅平滑的格律来诠释,这是否合适?

Do we hear what has been beautifully called "the clanging tread of a warrior in mail"?

我们是否还能听到那被人美妙地称为"披甲战士铿锵步伐"的声响?

Of all English translations of Beowulf, that of Professor Garnett alone gives any adequate idea of the chief characteristics of this great Teutonic epic.

在《贝奥武甫》的所有英译本中,唯有加内特教授的译本较为充分地呈现了这部伟大条顿史诗的主要特征。

The measure used in the present translation is believed to be as near a reproduction of the original as modern English affords.

本译本所采用的格律,被认为是在现代英语条件下最接近原作的再现。

The cadences closely resemble those used by Browning in some of his most striking poems.

其韵律节奏与勃朗宁在其若干最为出色的诗作中所使用的节奏颇为相近。

The four stresses of the Anglo-Saxon verse are retained, and as much thesis and anacrusis is allowed as is consistent with a regular cadence.

盎格鲁-撒克逊诗歌的四个重音得以保留,同时在与规则节奏相符的范围内,尽量保留了扬音与弱起音节。

Alliteration has been used to a large extent; but it was thought that modern ears would hardly tolerate it on every line.

头韵的使用相当广泛,但考虑到现代读者的耳感,每行都使用头韵恐怕难以令人接受。

End-rhyme has been used occasionally; internal rhyme, sporadically.

行尾韵偶有使用,内韵则零星出现。

Both have some warrant in Anglo-Saxon poetry.

两者在盎格鲁-撒克逊诗歌中均有一定的依据。

(For end-rhyme, see 1_53, 1_54; for internal rhyme, 2_21, 6_40.)

(行尾韵见1_53、1_54;内韵见2_21、6_40。)

What Gummere calls the "rime-giver" has been studiously kept; viz., the first accented syllable in the second half-verse always carries the alliteration; and the last accented syllable alliterates only sporadically.

古默尔所称的"韵律主音"得到了精心保留,即第二半行中第一个重读音节始终承载头韵,而最后一个重读音节则仅偶尔参与头韵。
