Somewhere in the garden, a gecko made its sound — three short notes, then silence.

Khao exhaled once, heavily, and shifted so that more of his weight rested against Nipa's ankle.

The light above the table drew its soft circle and beyond it the frangipani stood in darkness, and the gate at the end of the path was a dark shape with a pale latch, and the whole garden was very still, as if it too were holding something it wasn't ready to put down.

There was nothing left to arrange or decide, and so they simply stayed there together in the particular silence of a thing that has already been agreed upon — the agreement being this: that love does not require presence to continue, that some things survive distance, and that the evening would be enough, was already enough, more than enough.

没有什么需要安排或决定的了，于是她们就这样待在一起，沉浸在某种已然达成共识的事物所特有的静默之中——那共识是这样的：爱不需要在场才能延续，有些东西能够跨越距离而存活，而这个夜晚已经足够，早已足够，更是足够。
