She began to talk with animation and excitement.

Nora knew exactly what she was going to say.

But although she listened with delight to these stories of a bygone time, she never envied her mother those periods of prosperity.

Such a life would have been a prison to her; so she thought, although she never spoke her thought aloud.

奥沙纳根太太今晚又讲起了那个老故事，讲得甚至比平时更加生动有神。她最终以一声叹息结束了讲述。

Mrs. O'Shanaghgan began the old tale to-night, telling it with a little more verve even than usual. She ended at last with a sigh.

「哦，那美好的旧时光！」她说道。

"Oh, the beautiful old times!" she said.

「但那时候你还不认识父亲呢，」诺拉回答道，眉头微微皱起，心中涌起一阵短暂的愤懑。「你那时还没有父亲，没有诺拉，也没有特里。」

"But you didn't know father then," answered Nora, a frown coming to her brows, and an angry feeling for a moment visiting her warm heart. "You didn't have father, nor Nora, nor Terry."

「当然不是，亲爱的，你们弥补了很多；但是，亲爱的诺拉，尽管我爱我的丈夫和孩子们，我却憎恨这个国家。我憎恨它！」

"Of course not, darling, and you make up for much; but, Nora dear, although I love my husband and my children, I hate this country. I hate it!"

"Don't, mother," said Nora, with a look of pain. She started to her feet.
