All children, except one, grow up.

Alle Kinder, bis auf eines, werden groß.

They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this.

Sie wissen bald, dass sie aufwachsen werden, und so erfuhr es auch Wendy.

One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother.

Eines Tages, als sie zwei Jahre alt war, spielte sie in einem Garten, pflückte eine Blume und lief damit zu ihrer Mutter.

I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs. Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, "Oh, why can't you remain like this for ever!"

Sie muss wohl einen sehr entzückenden Anblick geboten haben, denn Mrs. Darling legte die Hand aufs Herz und rief: „Oh, warum kannst du nicht für immer so bleiben!"

This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up.

Das war alles, was zwischen ihnen zu diesem Thema gesagt wurde, aber von da an wusste Wendy, dass sie aufwachsen musste.

You always know after you are two.

Of course they lived at 14, and until Wendy came her mother was the chief one.

She was a lovely lady, with a romantic mind and such a sweet mocking mouth.

Sie war eine reizende Dame mit einem romantischen Gemüt und einem so süß spöttischen Mund.

Her romantic mind was like the tiny boxes, one within the other, that come from the puzzling East, however many you discover there is always one more; and her sweet mocking mouth had one kiss on it that Wendy could never get, though there it was, perfectly conspicuous in the right-hand corner.

Ihr romantisches Gemüt glich jenen winzigen Schachteln, eine in der anderen, die aus dem rätselhaften Osten stammen – so viele man auch entdeckt, es gibt immer noch eine weitere; und ihr süß spöttischer Mund barg einen Kuss, den Wendy nie erhaschen konnte, obwohl er dort ganz offensichtlich in seinem rechten Winkel saß.

The way Mr. Darling won her was this: the many gentlemen who had been boys when she was a girl discovered simultaneously that they loved her, and they all ran to her house to propose to her except Mr. Darling, who took a cab and nipped in first, and so he got her.

Wie Mr. Darling sie für sich gewann, war folgendermaßen: Die vielen Herren, die Jungen gewesen waren, als sie noch ein Mädchen war, erkannten alle gleichzeitig, dass sie sie liebten, und liefen alle zu ihrem Haus, um ihr einen Antrag zu machen – alle außer Mr. Darling, der eine Droschke nahm und als Erster ankam, und so gewann er sie.
