English → Korean CANTO II Level 9/10

Now much I dread lest he past help have stray'd,

이제 나는 그가 도움의 손길이 닿지 않는 곳으로 헤매었을까 몹시 두렵고,

And I be ris'n too late for his relief,

그를 구하기엔 내가 너무 늦게 일어난 것은 아닌지,

From what in heaven of him I heard.

하늘에서 그에 대해 들은 것으로부터 그리 느끼노라.

Speed now,

지금 서둘러라,

And by thy eloquent persuasive tongue,

그리고 네 웅변적이고 설득력 있는 혀로,

And by all means for his deliverance meet,

그의 구원을 위한 모든 방도를 다하여,

Assist him.

그를 도우라.

So to me will comfort spring.

그리하면 나에게 위안이 솟아오르리라.

I who now bid thee on this errand forth

지금 너를 이 심부름으로 내보내는 나는

Am Beatrice; from a place I come.

베아트리체이니라; 나는 한 곳으로부터 왔노라.

(Note: Beatrice. I use this word, as it is pronounced in the Italian, as consisting of four syllables, of which the third is a long one.)

(주: 베아트리체. 나는 이 단어를 이탈리아어 발음대로, 즉 네 음절로 이루어지며 세 번째 음절이 장음인 것으로 사용한다.)

Revisited with joy.

기쁨으로 다시 찾은 곳.

Love brought me thence,

사랑이 나를 그곳으로부터 이끌었으니,

Who prompts my speech.

사랑이 나의 말을 재촉하느니라.

When in my Master's sight I stand, thy praise to him I oft will tell."

내 스승의 앞에 내가 설 때, 그에게 너의 칭찬을 자주 전하리라."

She then was silent, and I thus began:

그녀는 그러고는 침묵하였고, 나는 이렇게 시작하였노라:

"O Lady! by whose influence alone,

"오 귀부인이여! 오직 그대의 영향력만으로,

Mankind excels whatever is contain'd

인류는 그 안에 담긴 모든 것을 능가하나니

Within that heaven which hath the smallest orb,

가장 작은 천구를 가진 저 하늘 안에 있는 것들을,

So thy command delights me, that to obey,

그대의 명령이 나를 이토록 기쁘게 하니, 복종하는 것이,

If it were done already, would seem late.

이미 이루어졌다 해도 늦은 것처럼 여겨지리로다.

No need hast thou farther to speak thy will;

그대는 더 이상 뜻을 말할 필요가 없으나,

Yet tell the reason, why thou art not loth

그러나 왜 그대가 꺼리지 않는지 그 이유를 말하라,

To leave that ample space, where to return

그 넓은 공간을 떠나는 것을, 그대가 돌아가기를

Thou burnest, for this centre here beneath."

불타도록 원하는 그곳을, 이 아래 중심을 위해서."

She then: "Since thou so deeply wouldst inquire,

그녀가 그러하여: "그대가 이토록 깊이 묻고자 하니,

I will instruct thee briefly, why no dread

어찌하여 아무런 두려움도

Hinders my entrance here.

나의 이곳 들어옴을 가로막지 않는지 간략히 가르쳐 주리라.

Those things alone

오직 그런 것들만이

Are to be fear'd, whence evil may proceed,

두려워해야 하나니, 그것들로부터 악이 비롯될 수 있는 것들을,

None else, for none are terrible beside.

그 외에는 없나니, 그 밖에 두려운 것은 아무것도 없으므로.

I am so fram'd by God, thanks to his grace!

나는 하나님의 은혜에 힘입어 그분에 의해 그렇게 만들어졌노라!
