Dopo aver descritto le sue occupazioni quotidiane con la sua famiglia e i suoi vicini, scrive: "Venuta la sera, me ne torno a casa e vado nel mio studio;

at the entrance I pull off my peasant-clothes, covered with dust and dirt, and put on my noble court dress, and thus becomingly re-clothed I pass into the ancient courts of the men of old,

where, being lovingly received by them, I am fed with that food which is mine alone;

dove, essendo amorevolmente accolto da loro, mi nutro di quel cibo che è mio solo;

where I do not hesitate to speak with them, and to ask for the reason of their actions, and they in their benignity answer me;

dove non esito a parlare con loro, e a chiedere la ragione delle loro azioni, ed essi nella loro benignità mi rispondono;

and for four hours I feel no weariness, I forget every trouble, poverty does not dismay, death does not terrify me;

e per quattro ore non sento alcuna stanchezza, dimentico ogni affanno, la povertà non mi spaventa, la morte non mi terrorizza;

I am possessed entirely by those great men.

sono posseduto interamente da quei grandi uomini.
