「没有什么可做的了，」那位小妇人平静地说。

"There is nothing to be done," said the little woman calmly.

「但她是谁？」桃乐丝问道。

"But who was she?" asked Dorothy.

「她就是我说的东方邪恶女巫，」那位小妇人回答道。

"She was the Wicked Witch of the East, as I said," answered the little woman.

「她多年来一直奴役着所有的芒奇金人，让他们日夜为她劳作。」

"She has held all the Munchkins in bondage for many years, making them slave for her night and day.

「如今他们全都获得了自由，对你给予他们的恩惠心存感激。」

Now they are all set free, and are grateful to you for the favor."

「芒奇金人是谁？」桃乐丝询问道。

"Who are the Munchkins?" inquired Dorothy.

「他们是住在东方这片土地上的人民，邪恶女巫曾统治着这里。」

"They are the people who live in this land of the East where the Wicked Witch ruled."

「你是芒奇金人吗？」桃乐丝问道。

"Are you a Munchkin?" asked Dorothy.

「不，但我是他们的朋友，尽管我住在北方的土地上。」

"No, but I am their friend, although I live in the land of the North.

「当他们看到东方女巫死了，芒奇金人便派了一位快使来找我，我立刻就来了。」

When they saw the Witch of the East was dead the Munchkins sent a swift messenger to me, and I came at once.

「我是北方女巫。」

I am the Witch of the North."

「哦，天哪！」桃乐丝叫道。「你是真正的女巫吗？」

"Oh, gracious!" cried Dorothy. "Are you a real witch?"

「是的，确实如此，」那位小妇人回答道。「但我是一位善良的女巫，人民都爱戴我。」

"Yes, indeed," answered the little woman. "But I am a good witch, and the people love me.

「我的法力不及曾统治这里的邪恶女巫强大，否则我早就亲自解放这里的人民了。」

I am not as powerful as the Wicked Witch was who ruled here, or I should have set the people free myself."

「但我以为所有的女巫都是邪恶的，」那个女孩说道，她面对一位真正的女巫，心中有些害怕。

"But I thought all witches were wicked," said the girl, who was half frightened at facing a real witch.

「哦，不，那是一个很大的误解。在整个奥兹国，只有四位女巫，其中住在北方和南方的两位是善良的女巫。」

"Oh, no, that is a great mistake. There were only four witches in all the Land of Oz, and two of them, those who live in the North and the South, are good witches.
