새끼 고양이와 생쥐.

1. Once there was a little kitty, White as the snow;

1. 옛날에 작은 새끼 고양이가 있었는데, 눈처럼 하얬지요;

In a barn he used to frolic, Long time ago.

헛간에서 그는 뛰어놀곤 했지요, 오래전 일이었어요.

2. In the barn a little mousie Ran to and fro;

2. 헛간 안에서 작은 생쥐가 이리저리 뛰어다녔지요;

For she heard the little kitty, Long time ago.

그녀는 작은 새끼 고양이 소리를 들었거든요, 오래전 일이었어요.

3. Two black eyes had little kitty, Black as a crow;

3. 작은 새끼 고양이는 검은 눈 두 개를 가졌는데, 까마귀처럼 새까맸지요;

And they spied the little mousie, Long time ago.

그 눈들이 작은 생쥐를 발견했지요, 오래전 일이었어요.

4. Four soft paws had little kitty, Paws soft as snow;

4. 작은 새끼 고양이는 부드러운 발 네 개를 가졌는데, 눈처럼 부드러운 발이었지요;

And they caught the little mousie, Long time ago.

그 발들이 작은 생쥐를 잡았지요, 오래전 일이었어요.

5. Nine pearl teeth had little kitty, All in a row;

5. 작은 새끼 고양이는 진주 같은 이빨 아홉 개를 가졌는데, 모두 가지런히 줄지어 있었지요;

And they bit the little mousie, Long time ago.

그 이빨들이 작은 생쥐를 물었지요, 오래전 일이었어요.

6. When the teeth bit little mousie, Mousie cried out "Oh!"

But she slipped away from kitty, Long time ago.

일하며.

1. A little play does not harm any one, but does much good.

1. 조금 노는 것은 누구에게도 해롭지 않으며, 오히려 많은 도움이 됩니다.

After play, we should be glad to work.

놀고 난 후에는, 기꺼이 일해야 합니다.

2. I knew a boy who liked a good game very much.

2. 나는 좋은 놀이를 매우 좋아하는 한 소년을 알고 있었습니다.

He could run, swim, jump, and play ball; and was always merry when out of school.

그는 달리고, 수영하고, 뛰고, 공놀이를 할 수 있었으며, 학교 밖에서는 항상 즐거워했습니다.

3. But he knew that time is not all for play; that our minutes, hours, and days are very precious.
