Some one was coming up the stairs.

누군가가 계단을 올라오고 있었습니다.

4. The door flew open suddenly, and there stood the great, shaggy bear.

4. 문이 갑자기 확 열렸고, 그곳에 크고 털이 북슬북슬한 곰이 서 있었습니다.

He had got tired of waiting, and had found his way to the stairs.

곰은 기다리다 지쳐서 계단으로 가는 길을 찾아낸 것이었습니다.

5. The children were badly frightened.

5. 아이들은 몹시 겁에 질렸습니다.

Each one crept into a corner, but the bear found them all out, and smelt their clothes, but did not hurt them.

아이들은 저마다 구석으로 기어들어 갔지만, 곰은 그들을 모두 찾아내어 옷 냄새를 맡았으나 해치지는 않았습니다.

6. "This must be a great dog," they said, and they began to pat him.

6. "이건 틀림없이 커다란 개일 거야," 아이들이 말하며 곰을 쓰다듬기 시작했습니다.

7. Then the bear lay down on the floor, and the youngest boy climbed on his back, hid his head in the shaggy fur, and played at "hide and seek."

7. 그러자 곰이 바닥에 드러누웠고, 막내 남자아이가 곰의 등 위에 올라타 북슬북슬한 털 속에 머리를 파묻고 "숨바꼭질" 놀이를 했습니다.

8. The eldest boy took his drum and began to strike it, when the bear rose on his hind legs and danced.

8. 맏이 남자아이가 북을 들고 두드리기 시작하자, 곰은 뒷다리로 일어서서 춤을 추었습니다.

At that the children gave a merry shout.

그러자 아이들은 신나게 소리를 질렀습니다.

9. The two younger boys took their wooden guns, and gave the bear one.

9. 두 어린 남자아이들이 나무 총을 들고, 곰에게도 하나를 주었습니다.

Away they all marched around the room, keeping step.

그들은 모두 발을 맞추어 방 안을 행진하였습니다.

10. Now the frightened mother of the children came to the door.

10. 그때 겁에 질린 아이들의 어머니가 문 앞으로 왔습니다.

But the youngest boy shouted, joyfully. "See, we are playing soldiers!"

그러나 막내 남자아이가 기쁘게 소리쳤습니다. "보세요, 우리 병정 놀이 하고 있어요!"

11. Then the bear's master came running up, and took the bear away.
