Reddy Fox jumped on the Big Rock in the middle of the Laughing Brook and peeped over the other side.

レディ・フォックスは、笑い声の小川の真ん中にある大きな岩の上に飛び乗り、反対側をこっそりのぞき込みました。

Why, right down below in a Dear Little Pool were Mr. And Mrs. Trout and all the little Trouts.

なんと、すぐ真下の小さな愛らしい池に、トラウトさんご夫妻と小さなトラウトたちが全員いたのです。

Reddy Fox wanted some of those little Trouts to take home for his dinner, but he didn't know how to catch them.

レディ・フォックスは夕食のために小さなトラウトたちを何匹か家に持ち帰りたいと思いましたが、どうやって捕まえればいいかわかりませんでした。

He lay flat down on the Big Rock and reached way down into the Dear Little Pool, but all the little Trouts laughed at Reddy Fox and not one came within reach.

彼は大きな岩の上に平らに寝そべり、愛らしい小さな池の中へ腕をずっと伸ばしましたが、小さなトラウトたちはみんなレディ・フォックスを笑い、一匹も手の届く範囲に来ませんでした。

Then Mr. Trout swam up so quickly that Reddy Fox didn't see him coming and bit Reddy's little black paw hard.

すると、トラウトさんがあまりにも素早く泳いできたので、レディ・フォックスは気づかず、レディの小さな黒い前足を強く噛みました。

"Ouch!" cried Reddy Fox, pulling his little black paw out of the water.

「痛い！」とレディ・フォックスは叫び、小さな黒い前足を水の中から引き抜きました。

And all the little Trouts laughed at Reddy Fox.

そして小さなトラウトたちはみんなレディ・フォックスを笑いました。

Just then along came Billy Mink.

ちょうどそのとき、ビリー・ミンクがやって来ました。

"Hello, Reddy Fox!" said Billy Mink. "What are you doing here?"

「やあ、レディ・フォックス！」とビリー・ミンクは言いました。「ここで何をしているの？」

"I'm trying to catch a fish," said Reddy Fox.

「魚を捕まえようとしているんだ」とレディ・フォックスは言いました。

"Pooh! That's easy!" said Billy Mink. "I'll show you how."

「ふん！そんなの簡単さ！」とビリー・ミンクは言いました。「やり方を教えてあげるよ。」

So Billy Mink lay down on the Big Rock side of Reddy Fox and peeped over into the Dear Little Pool where all the little Trouts were laughing at Reddy Fox and having such a good time.

そこでビリー・ミンクはレディ・フォックスの横の大きな岩の上に寝そべり、小さなトラウトたちがみんなレディ・フォックスを笑いながら楽しく過ごしている愛らしい小さな池をこっそりのぞき込みました。

But Billy Mink took care, such very great care, that Mr. Trout and Mrs. Trout should not see him peeping over into the Dear Little Pool.

しかしビリー・ミンクは、トラウトさんとトラウト夫人に愛らしい小さな池をのぞき込んでいるのを見られないよう、細心の注意を払いました。
