She was not alarmed to see a stranger crying on the nursery floor; she was only pleasantly interested.

"Boy," she said courteously, "why are you crying?"

Peter también sabía ser sumamente cortés, pues había aprendido los modales refinados en las ceremonias de las hadas, así que se levantó y le hizo una hermosa reverencia.

Peter could be exceeding polite also, having learned the grand manner at fairy ceremonies, and he rose and bowed to her beautifully.

She was much pleased, and bowed beautifully to him from the bed.

—¿Cómo te llamas? —preguntó él.

"What's your name?" he asked.

—Wendy Moira Angela Darling —respondió ella con cierta satisfacción—. ¿Y tú cómo te llamas?

"Wendy Moira Angela Darling," she replied with some satisfaction. "What is your name?"

—Peter Pan.

"Peter Pan."

Ella ya estaba bastante segura de que debía llamarse Peter, pero el nombre le pareció comparativamente corto.

She was already sure that he must be Peter, but it did seem a comparatively short name.

—¿Es todo?

"Is that all?"

—Sí —dijo él con cierta brusquedad. Era la primera vez que sentía que su nombre era más bien corto.

"Yes," he said rather sharply. He felt for the first time that it was a shortish name.

—Lo siento mucho —dijo Wendy Moira Angela.

"I'm so sorry," said Wendy Moira Angela.

—No importa —dijo Peter con un nudo en la garganta.

"It doesn't matter," Peter gulped.

She asked where he lived.

—A la segunda a la derecha —dijo Peter—, y luego todo recto hasta la mañana.

"Second to the right," said Peter, "and then straight on till morning."

"What a funny address!"

Peter sintió un vacío en el estómago. Por primera vez le pareció que quizás era una dirección curiosa.

Peter had a sinking. For the first time he felt that perhaps it was a funny address.

—No, no lo es —dijo él.

"No, it isn't," he said.

—Quiero decir —dijo Wendy amablemente, recordando que era la anfitriona—, ¿es eso lo que ponen en las cartas?

"I mean," Wendy said nicely, remembering that she was hostess, "is that what they put on the letters?"

Él deseó que ella no hubiera mencionado las cartas.

He wished she had not mentioned letters.

—No recibo ninguna carta —dijo él con desdén.

"Don't get any letters," he said contemptuously.

—¿Pero tu madre recibe cartas?

"But your mother gets letters?"

—No tengo madre —dijo él. Y no solo no tenía madre, sino que no sentía el menor deseo de tenerla. Le parecían personas muy sobrevaloradas.

"Don't have a mother," he said. Not only had he no mother, but he had not the slightest desire to have one. He thought them very over-rated persons.
