Ahora bien, Wendy era toda una mujer, aunque no era muy alta, y se asomó entre las sábanas.

Now Wendy was every inch a woman, though there were not very many inches, and she peeped out of the bed-clothes.

—¿De verdad lo crees, Peter?

"Do you really think so, Peter?"

—Sí, lo creo.

"Yes, I do."

—Me parece que eres tremendamente encantador —declaró ella—, y me voy a levantar otra vez —y se sentó junto a él en el borde de la cama.

"I think it's perfectly sweet of you," she declared, "and I'll get up again," and she sat with him on the side of the bed.

También le dijo que le daría un beso si él quería, pero Peter no sabía lo que ella quería decir, y extendió la mano con expectación.

She also said she would give him a kiss if he liked, but Peter did not know what she meant, and he held out his hand expectantly.

—¿Acaso no sabes lo que es un beso? —preguntó ella, horrorizada.

"Surely you know what a kiss is?" she asked, aghast.

—Lo sabré cuando me lo des —respondió él con rigidez, y para no herirle los sentimientos, ella le dio un dedal.

"I shall know when you give it to me," he replied stiffly, and not to hurt his feeling she gave him a thimble.

—Ahora —dijo él—, ¿te doy yo un beso a ti? —y ella respondió con cierta afectación—: Como gustes.

"Now," said he, "shall I give you a kiss?" and she replied with a slight primness, "If you please."

Ella se puso en evidencia al inclinar el rostro hacia él, pero él simplemente dejó caer un botón de bellota en su mano, así que ella lentamente volvió el rostro a donde había estado antes, y dijo amablemente que llevaría su beso en la cadena que tenía alrededor del cuello.

She made herself rather cheap by inclining her face toward him, but he merely dropped an acorn button into her hand, so she slowly returned her face to where it had been before, and said nicely that she would wear his kiss on the chain around her neck.

It was lucky that she did put it on that chain, for it was afterwards to save her life.

When people in our set are introduced, it is customary for them to ask each other's age, and so Wendy, who always liked to do the correct thing, asked Peter how old he was.
