"About the prince who couldn't find the lady who wore the glass slipper."

「ピーター」とウェンディは興奮して言いました。「それはシンデレラのことよ。王子様は彼女を見つけて、二人はその後ずっと幸せに暮らしたのよ。」

"Peter," said Wendy excitedly, "that was Cinderella, and he found her, and they lived happily ever after."

ピーターはとても嬉しくなって、二人が座っていた床から立ち上がり、急いで窓の方へ向かいました。

Peter was so glad that he rose from the floor, where they had been sitting, and hurried to the window.

「どこへ行くの？」と彼女は不安そうに叫びました。

"Where are you going?" she cried with misgiving.

「他の男の子たちに話しに行くんだ。」

"To tell the other boys."

「行かないで、ピーター」と彼女は懇願しました。「私はたくさんのお話を知っているわ。」

"Don't go Peter," she entreated, "I know such lots of stories."

それが彼女の正確な言葉でしたから、最初に彼を誘惑したのは彼女だったということは否定できません。

Those were her precise words, so there can be no denying that it was she who first tempted him.

彼は戻ってきましたが、その目には今や貪欲な光が宿っており、それは彼女を不安にさせるべきものでしたが、彼女は気づきませんでした。

He came back, and there was a greedy look in his eyes now which ought to have alarmed her, but did not.

「男の子たちに話してあげられるお話がたくさんあるわ！」と彼女は叫びました。するとピーターは彼女をつかんで、窓の方へ引っ張り始めました。

"Oh, the stories I could tell to the boys!" she cried, and then Peter gripped her and began to draw her toward the window.

「放して！」と彼女は命じました。

"Let me go!" she ordered him.

「ウェンディ、一緒に来て他の男の子たちにお話を聞かせてよ。」

"Wendy, do come with me and tell the other boys."

もちろん彼女は誘われてとても嬉しかったのですが、こう言いました。「まあ、無理よ。ママのことを考えてみて！それに、私は飛べないし。」

Of course she was very pleased to be asked, but she said, "Oh dear, I can't. Think of mummy! Besides, I can't fly."

「教えてあげるよ。」

"I'll teach you."

「まあ、飛ぶなんて素敵でしょうね。」

"Oh, how lovely to fly."

「風の背中に乗って飛び跳ねる方法を教えてあげるよ。そしたら二人で出発だ。」

"I'll teach you how to jump on the wind's back, and then away we go."

「うわあ！」と彼女は恍惚として叫びました。

"Oo!" she exclaimed rapturously.

「ウェンディ、ウェンディ、君がつまらないベッドで眠っている時も、僕と一緒に飛び回って星たちに面白いことを言えるんだよ。」

"Wendy, Wendy, when you are sleeping in your silly bed you might be flying about with me saying funny things to the stars."

「うわあ！」

"Oo!"

「それにウェンディ、人魚もいるんだよ。」

"And, Wendy, there are mermaids.
