武器が最初にぶつかり合う音がしたとき、彼らはまるで石像のように固まり、口を開け、両腕をピーターへと伸ばして訴えかけていたのを私たちは見た。

We have seen them at the first clang of the weapons, turned as it were into stone figures, open-mouthed, all appealing with outstretched arms to Peter;

そして今、彼らが口を閉じ、腕を体の脇に下ろすところへと話を戻そう。

and we return to them as their mouths close, and their arms fall to their sides.
