「小仙子总是有很多小的，」温迪解释道，她现在已经是个相当权威的人了，「因为你看，每当一个新生婴儿第一次笑的时候，就会诞生一个新的小仙子，而因为总是有新生婴儿，所以总是有新的小仙子。她们住在树顶的巢里；紫色的是男孩，白色的是女孩，蓝色的只是些小傻瓜，还不确定自己是什么。」

"There are always a lot of young ones," explained Wendy, who was now quite an authority, "because you see when a new baby laughs for the first time a new fairy is born, and as there are always new babies there are always new fairies. They live in nests on the tops of trees; and the mauve ones are boys and the white ones are girls, and the blue ones are just little sillies who are not sure what they are."

「我会玩得很开心的，」彼得说，眼睛望着温迪。

"I shall have such fun," said Peter, with eye on Wendy.

「晚上坐在火炉旁会相当寂寞的，」她说。

"It will be rather lonely in the evening," she said, "sitting by the fire."

「我还有婷克陪我。」

"I shall have Tink."

「婷克连整段路程的二十分之一都飞不完，」她语气略带尖刻地提醒他。

"Tink can't go a twentieth part of the way round," she reminded him a little tartly.

「爱打小报告的家伙！」婷克从某个角落里喊道。

"Sneaky tell-tale!" Tink called out from somewhere round the corner.

「没关系的，」彼得说。

"It doesn't matter," Peter said.

「哦，彼得，你知道这是有关系的。」

"O Peter, you know it matters."

「那好，跟我一起去那间小屋吧。」

"Well, then, come with me to the little house."

「妈妈，我可以去吗？」

"May I, mummy?"

「当然不行。我好不容易把你接回了家，我要把你留在身边。」

"Certainly not. I have got you home again, and I mean to keep you."

「但他实在太需要一个妈妈了。」

"But he does so need a mother."

「你也一样，我的宝贝。」

"So do you, my love."

「好吧，随便，」彼得说，好像他不过是出于礼貌才问她的；但是达林太太看见他的嘴角抽动了一下，于是她提出了这个慷慨的建议：让温迪每年去陪他一个星期，帮他做春季大扫除。

"Oh, all right," Peter said, as if he had asked her from politeness merely; but Mrs. Darling saw his mouth twitch, and she made this handsome offer: to let Wendy go to him for a week every year to do his spring cleaning.
