Is it then a slight woe to love Thee not?

Oh! for Thy mercies' sake, tell me, O Lord my God, what Thou art unto me.

Ôi! vì lòng thương xót của Ngài, xin hãy nói cho con biết, lạy Chúa là Thiên Chúa của con, Ngài là gì đối với con.

Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

Hãy phán với linh hồn con rằng, Ta là sự cứu rỗi của ngươi.

So speak, that I may hear.

Xin hãy phán như vậy, để con có thể nghe.

Behold, Lord, my heart is before Thee; open Thou the ears thereof, and say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

Kìa, lạy Chúa, lòng con đang ở trước mặt Ngài; xin Ngài hãy mở tai lòng ấy, và phán với linh hồn con rằng, Ta là sự cứu rỗi của ngươi.

After this voice let me haste, and take hold on Thee.

Sau tiếng phán ấy, xin để con hối hả chạy đến và nắm lấy Ngài.

Hide not Thy face from me.

Xin đừng giấu mặt Ngài khỏi con.

Let me die--lest I die--only let me see Thy face.

Dù con có chết--hơn là phải chết--chỉ xin cho con được thấy mặt Ngài.

Narrow is the mansion of my soul; enlarge Thou it, that Thou mayest enter in.

Ngôi nhà linh hồn con thật chật hẹp; xin Ngài hãy mở rộng nó ra, để Ngài có thể ngự vào.

It is ruinous; repair Thou it.

Nó đang đổ nát; xin Ngài hãy sửa chữa nó.

It has that within which must offend Thine eyes; I confess and know it.

Trong đó có những điều tất phải xúc phạm đến mắt Ngài; con thú nhận và biết điều đó.

But who shall cleanse it? or to whom should I cry, save Thee?

Nhưng ai sẽ thanh tẩy nó? hay con phải kêu cầu ai, ngoài Ngài?

Lord, cleanse me from my secret faults, and spare Thy servant from the power of the enemy.

Lạy Chúa, xin hãy tẩy sạch con khỏi những lỗi lầm thầm kín, và gìn giữ tôi tớ Ngài khỏi quyền lực của kẻ thù.

I believe, and therefore do I speak.

Con tin, và vì vậy con mới nói.

Lord, Thou knowest.

Lạy Chúa, Ngài biết tất cả.

Have I not confessed against myself my transgressions unto Thee, and Thou, my God, hast forgiven the iniquity of my heart?

Con đã chẳng thú nhận trước mặt Ngài những tội lỗi của con chống lại chính mình sao, và Ngài, Thiên Chúa của con, đã tha thứ tội ác trong lòng con?

I contend not in judgment with Thee, who art the truth; I fear to deceive myself; lest mine iniquity lie unto itself.

Con không tranh luận trong sự phán xét với Ngài, Đấng là chân lý; con sợ tự dối lòng mình; kẻo tội ác của con lại tự nói dối với chính nó.

Therefore I contend not in judgment with Thee; for if Thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall abide it?

Vì vậy con không tranh luận trong sự phán xét với Ngài; vì nếu Ngài, lạy Chúa, ghi nhớ các tội ác, thì lạy Chúa, ai có thể chịu đựng được?

Yet suffer me to speak unto Thy mercy, me, dust and ashes.

Nhưng xin hãy để con thưa lên lòng thương xót của Ngài, con, bụi đất và tro tàn.
