E como hei de invocar o meu Deus, meu Deus e Senhor, já que, quando O invocar, estarei chamando-O a mim mesmo?

And how shall I call upon my God, my God and Lord, since, when I call for Him, I shall be calling Him to myself?

E que espaço há dentro de mim para onde o meu Deus possa entrar em mim?

and what room is there within me, whither my God can come into me?

Para onde pode Deus entrar em mim, Deus que criou o céu e a terra?

whither can God come into me, God who made heaven and earth?

Há, de facto, ó Senhor meu Deus, algo em mim que Te possa conter?

is there, indeed, O Lord my God, aught in me that can contain Thee?

Contêm-Te então o céu e a terra, que Tu fizeste, e nos quais me fizeste a mim?

do then heaven and earth, which Thou hast made, and wherein Thou hast made me, contain Thee?

Ou será que, porque nada do que existe poderia existir sem Ti, tudo o que existe Te contém?

or, because nothing which exists could exist without Thee, doth therefore whatever exists contain Thee?

Já que eu também existo, por que razão busco que Tu entres em mim, eu que não existiria, se Tu não estivesses em mim?

Since, then, I too exist, why do I seek that Thou shouldest enter into me, who were not, wert Thou not in me?

Por quê? Porque não desci ao inferno, e todavia Tu também lá estás.

Why? because I am not gone down in hell, and yet Thou art there also.

Pois se eu descer ao inferno, Tu lá estás.

For if I go down into hell, Thou art there.

Eu não poderia existir, ó meu Deus, não poderia existir de modo algum, se Tu não estivesses em mim;

I could not be then, O my God, could not be at all, wert Thou not in me;

ou, antes, se eu não estivesse em Ti, de quem são todas as coisas, por quem são todas as coisas, em quem são todas as coisas?

or, rather, unless I were in Thee, of whom are all things, by whom are all things, in whom are all things?

Assim seja, Senhor, assim seja.

Even so, Lord, even so.

Para onde Te invoco, se estou em Ti?

Whither do I call Thee, since I am in Thee?

Ou de onde podes Tu entrar em mim?

or whence canst Thou enter into me?

Pois para onde posso ir além do céu e da terra, para que daí o meu Deus venha a mim, Ele que disse: Eu encho o céu e a terra?

for whither can I go beyond heaven and earth, that thence my God should come into me, who hath said, I fill the heaven and the earth.

Contêm-Te então o céu e a terra, já que Tu os enches?

Do the heaven and earth then contain Thee, since Thou fillest them?
