The other portion killed and ate his own kind, or was killed and eaten by his own kind.
そして、この分類から法則が生まれた。
And out of this classification arose the law.
命の目的は肉にあった。
The aim of life was meat.
命そのものが肉だった。
Life itself was meat.
命は命を糧に生きていた。
Life lived on life.
食うものと食われるものがいた。
There were the eaters and the eaten.
法則はこうだった——食うか食われるか。
The law was: EAT OR BE EATEN.

He did not formulate the law in clear, set terms and moralise about it.
